RIE Facilitator Training Programme
This programme will allow your organisation to become self-sufficient in continuous improvement by training key personnel to facilitate Kaizen Blitz/Rapid Improvement Events.
The time and effort required to train a facilitator depends on where the candidate is starting from. In our experience, it requires active participation in a minimum of 4 week-long events plus several days of off-line training, to reach the level of knowledge, competence and confidence required.
Selecting The Right People
Before you make an investment in time and money, training your people, you need to be sure they are right for the job. We have a clear understanding of the characteristics candidates need to have.
We use personal profiling to determine which of your candidates has the highest potential for success. The results are compared with the established profile for the job. There is no such thing as a bad profile, but the closer their personal profile is to the job profile, the easier it will be for them to succeed.

Structure
The programme consists of classroom learning and structured coaching sessions during 4 ‘live’ events. In the run-up to your first RIE, the trainees will shadow a Ross International facilitator to understand what it takes to create the right environment for a successful outcome.
In the excitement following the end of the RIE weeks it is easy to forget that the real hard work is still to come. During their events, your trainee facilitators will be responsible for understanding the challenges of post event follow-through and ensuring the improvements will be sustainable.
Skills transfer
Over the course of the 4 RIE’s, Ross International will gradually hand over more of the facilitation to your trainees. They will be coached to a point where they have the necessary skills and confidence to take full control. Feedback is given at every step and by the end of the fourth event they will usually be ready to go solo. This means your facilitators will be able to organise future events, handle all the facilitation and follow through to a successful conclusion. Ross International will continue to provide additional support if necessary.
Accreditation through the Ross International Programme
In collaboration with ibp academy, Ross International has developed a unique process that allows RIE facilitators to achieve the ILM certificate in Leading Rapid Improvement. This is a level 7 qualification worth 60 credits which is half the credits required for a Post Graduate Diploma in Leading Rapid Improvement from Edinburgh Napier University. The Diploma can be followed by a Masters in the same subject.
Ross International Programme Graduates - Sally Wilson and Suzie Downie
Sally Wilson and Susie Downie were the first Ross International trained facilitators to be awarded the ILM certificate in Leading Rapid Improvement. They were both working for the Scottish Government Health Delivery Directorate in the Improvement and Support Team when they went through their RIE facilitator training (click for one of their case studies). They both have moved on to new challenges assisted by their increased knowledge and confidence.

Ross International Graduate - Orla Grimes
Orla Grimes is the first person from Edinburgh Napier University to be awarded the ILM certificate in Leading Rapid Improvement. She was heavilly involved in the student accomodation case study and is now facilitating events on her own.
