Scottish Qualifications Authority
Due to a large increase in volume the publications department felt under resourced to meet customer expectations. A Kaizen in this area identified multiple instances where defects were being passed all along the chain starting with poor information from the supplier/customer. A 'right first time' approach was implemented and soon the customer will be able to supply the right information and get their product when they need it, with a significant reduction of effort.
Student Awards Agency for Scotland
It was taking up to 3 days to scan applications onto the workflow system. The Kaizen team eliminated batching throughout the process and introduced a system where people moved to the work instead of waiting for it. The result has been 100% through in a day every day without the need for the usual additional staff in peak periods.
NHS National Services Scotland
The challenge ws to gain acceptance of a new change methodology at a time of significant planned down sizing. A pilot process paying chemists was chosen & a team from all over scotland was selected including a union representative. Large productivity gains were achieved aswell as nuch less end of month stress and delighted customers who had 90% of their 'blue sky' wish list satisfied. The NHS NSS now has acceptance and will run more Kaizen interventions in the future.
NHS Lothian
The challenge was to prove Lean principles and Kaizen Blitz could work in a clinical environment in Scotland. A pilot process, assessing and fitting adult patients with hearing aids was selected. The key outcome is that audiologists will be able to spend the entire appointment time with their patient with everything they need, moulds, records, materials, equipment being to hand. Many more benefits will result and will be written up as a case study in October 06 once the follow through actions are completed |
